No one can understand the experience of war as well as a fellow soldier. Civil War veterans’ common experiences produce a fraternal bond, and they often exchange tokens of friendship and esteem. One such item is a silver badge presented to Captain Henry H. Burnett of the 5th New York Infantry, Duryee’s Zouaves, by General Gouverneur K. Warren. As the Army of the Potomac’s Chief Engineer, Warren is famous for first realizing the tactical importance of Little Round Top at the Battle of Gettysburg.
