Riding with the Union army’s McLaughlin’s Squadron, Private Naman Wood and his comrades occasionally run across enemy camps laden with supplies and equipment. Wood captures a Confederate Major’s Frock Coat and manages to dispatch it to his Ohio home. The uniform remains with Wood’s family for years until donated to the McLaughlin Post of the GAR in Mansfield, Ohio. Such Civil War uniforms can provide a glimpse into the everyday lives of soldiers.
