Soldiers are not the only victims of war. The 150-acre Gettysburg farm owned by John Forney is devastated as his land becomes the center of battle on July 1, 1863. As the fight rages, his field, home and barn are seriously damaged. While Forney files a claim with the state government for compensation, there is no record that he ever receives payment for his loss.
